About
Brooks Vardell, DVM, cVMA, CVMMP
Dr. Brooks Vardell fell in love with Virginia during her undergraduate education and endeavored to work her way back to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Dr. Vardell grew up in New York riding hunter/jumpers on the A circuit, maintaining this passion throughout her education and early career.
After graduating from Washington and Lee University with a BA in English and a minor in Poverty and Human Capability Studies, Dr. Vardell became determined to mature her life-long passion for horses into a profession. She moved from Virginia to Pennsylvania to complete her veterinary school requirements through West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program. Dr. Vardell then received her veterinary degree from the Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
After vet school, Dr. Vardell completed a rotating internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center on the outskirts of Denver, Colorado. Her internship provided invaluable experience working with a variety of disciplines, both in the hospital and ambulatory setting. Dr. Vardell then returned to Virginia working as a general practitioner in private practice before starting Riverbend Equine Veterinary Services, LLC. She can be seen on the road with her mini Aussie sidekick, Basil, who serves as both a quality control officer and utilizes his herding background to keep Dr. Vardell on task.
After returning to Virginia to start work in private practice, Dr. Vardell became certified in acupuncture through CuraCore Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians and veterinary medical manipulation through the Chi Institute. She has loved watching her patients thrive with the addition of these skill to her toolbox. Dr. Vardell is also an FEI treating veterinarian, a member of the AAEP and the AVMA.
In her free time, Dr. Vardell enjoys spending time with her husband, their dogs and horses, on their farm in central Virginia.
